In today’s modern society, more and more people’s jobs call for sitting at a desk for the majority of the day. Unfortunately, our human bodies were not created for this kind of lifestyle. Sitting in the same position for endless hours, staring and an artificially lit screen doesn’t have positive influences on our health.
In order to make sure that you avoid certain health conditions related to sedentary jobs, make sure to put the following tips to work.
Give Your Eyes Regular Breaks
When you stare at a computer for long periods of time your eyes can become overly strained. By giving yourself frequent breaks, your eyes won’t have to work overtime to focus. You’ll feel less exhausted at the end of the day.
If you feel your eyes struggling increasingly to focus on your computer’s screen, then you should consider making an appointment for an eye exam. They’ll be able to determine whether you need corrective lenses or possibly even get LASIK surgery.
Eat a Healthy Diet
When you sit in one position throughout the day, you aren’t burning as many calories. It’s crucial that you fill your body with nutritious and healthy foods.
By filling your body with wholesome ingredients rather than processed and calorie dense foods, you’ll have more sustained energy and a greater ability to focus throughout the day.
Drink Plenty of Water
A lot of people underestimate the power of water. Water is a crucial part of keeping your system running. Dehydration will lower your energy and affect your system’s ability to stay healthy.
Keep a water bottle next to your desk throughout the day and sip gradually. Juices and sodas pack loads of unnecessary artificial sugars. If you must add flavor, try adding a little lemon or drink store bought flavored water like La Croix.
Get Exercise
Before or after you get to the office, try to incorporate a workout into your day. This can be anything from doing a workout DVD in your living room or cycling to work.
If you’re lucky, perhaps your apartment complex has a gym on site. Try to get creative with ways that you can stay active throughout the day.
Stand Up Throughout the Day
Sitting in the same place all day will start to degrade your body over time. Try to get up at certain points throughout the day to stretch your legs and be active.
It may work to buy an activity tracker like a Fitbit which reminds you to get up and move throughout the day. Standing up and moving around throughout the day doesn’t necessarily mean you need to run laps in your office, but you should be getting your blood flowing.
Get Plenty Of Rest
Your schedule may be full of to-do’s, and you may find yourself pulling long hours to get them done. However, sleep deprivation will only lead to exhaustion and ultimately lack of productivity.
Get as much sleep as you need in order to feel focused and refreshed each day.
