Feng Shui in your office space is key to productivity.
In other words, matching matters.
Whether you’re chillin’ in a corner office overlooking Central Park or hustling in a cubicle the size of a Little Tykes car, making sure your flow is right can help your day move along better than ever before.
Here are a few simple tips to helping you get your good office vibes flowing.
1. Lighting
Lighting is so important in everyday life. If you are lucky enough to have an office with a window, cut the electric and let the sun take over. Those bright office lights can cause headaches and make the computer screen that much harder to look at. Soak in some sun, it’s great for boosting happiness and easing stress.
If you’re not working with windows, try getting a smaller desk or office light. The dim lighting will ease your mind and help you to focus on what’s in front of you.
If you have no control of your lights, build a desk fort.
Okay, maybe that’s a little aggressive, but the trend may just catch on.
2. Clean Your Desk
It’s hard to grasp the concept of an “organized mess. ” You may say you know where everything is, but having it organized and not all over the place will help you breathe a little better.
What also may help you breathe a little better is throwing out last week’s lunch. There’s no reason to still have that rotting fruit on your desk. You weren’t going to eat it then and you sure aren’t going to eat it now.
Clutter directly relates to stress. I’m not saying you have to get a label maker, but a few folders and small shelving units just might do that trick.
3. Avoid Pictures Of People
Of course if you have kids, put them on display. It’s when you start cluttering your desk with pictures of Cancun last summer and Guys night out that you start over doing it. People looking at you all day, even though they’re just pictures, can make you feel pressured. Try hanging up some awesome shots from vacation or a favorite quote or two.
4. Make It It Home-y
Spend a little extra money and get comfortable. If your chair sucks, buy a new one. You’re spending 8-10 hours a day sitting there, why wouldn’t you want to be comfortable?
Invest in some things that show your personality. If you love to travel, put a small globe on your desk. If you’re all about the Seattle Seahawks, grab a new football with a little stand to have on display.
Having things you love around you will help you gather inspiration to make it through the day.
5. Move Sh*t Around
Routines get boring. Switching desks or reorganizing the floor plan could help keep everyone fresh! Maybe you were in the corner for a long time and now you’d like to be more in the middle of the room.
Suggest the switch and see what your co-workers have to say. They may need a change just as much as you.
6. Get In The Holiday Spirit
Whether it’s 4th of July, Christmas or Chinese New Year, decorate your space with items that remind you of the celebration. It doesn’t matter what time of year it is, the office could always use a little holiday cheer.
Let the sunlight in and get it together!
With a few little changes, you’ll be walking into work feeling like a million bucks in no time.
