Back in March 2015, HBO exposed the shocking reality of Scientology in their documentary Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief. The special revealed secrets with an in-depth look at the inner workings of the controversial, Hollywood-infused church. Former Scientologist and King of Queens actress Leah Remini (and my personal favorite East Coast loudmouth, Stacey Carosi) released her tell-all memoir Troublemaker, detailing her eccentric past and bout within the realm of Scientology. Her exposition of Scientology, presented in an exclusive 20/20 sit down, is gaining a vast amount of response from the media mainly due to the inconceivable facets it exposes about the science fiction-based religion.
Although I was one of the 5.5 million viewers the film attracted, one question still really plagues me—what is Scientology?
Two-hours of a biopic focusing on the history, highlighting anecdotes of ex-members or “suppressive persons?, countless articles on the internet proclaiming its cult-like following—not to mention Leah spilling the beans—and I still have no idea what exactly the “religion? is and the true principles behind the belief structure.
According to our friend Wiki, “Scientology is a body of beliefs and practices created by American science fiction author and founder L. Ron Hubbard (1911 – 1986).?
“A Scientologist is an adherent of the doctrines and beliefs of Scientology.”?
Could you be more vague please? Sounds bogus.
Although I pride myself on being a part of possibly the most open-minded and tolerant generation to ever exist, even I have to raise my brow. Why can’t anyone actually answer the “real questions? about what Scientology is and not just list the reasons why Tom Cruise is such a Looney Tune?
I want more than just the outlandish rules or tales of erratic abuse and brainwashing techniques, but an authentic meaning or understanding of what these people actually define as an ideal system of worship or pursuit of faith. I can only refer to this as “a movement? rather than praise for a higher power.
I’m waiting…Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
I will say this, the headlines certainly do peak my interest and anybody willing to divulge any information has my full attention. I truly want to know what these people are capable of. I am on a quest to unveil the truth behind this so-called religion.
I’m only seeking the basics here. Although the mass public continues to question this ideology, Scientology is endorsed by some of the biggest and most influential names in the biz. Surprisingly, right now they are keeping mum regarding all of the backlash and spotlight.
Outspoken celebrity Scientologists include: Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Juliette Lewis, Jenna Elfman, Kirstie Alley, Kelly Preston, Elisabeth Moss, Isaac Hayes, Catherine Bell, Nancy Cartwright, Beck, Erika Christensen, Jason Lee, Laura Prepon, Anne Archer, Giovanni Ribisi, Marissa Ribisi, David Campbell, and Chick Corea.
Famous or not, when someone uses the term “surviving? to describe their prior convictions, I need a logical explanation.
For right now one thing is for certain, there is no worse feeling than finding out your favorite A-lister is a Scientologist.
