    Getting Started

When you drive a big rig you do not sleep in! Most commercial truck drivers are up well before dawn getting their day started. There are federal regulations for truck drivers that require them to drive for no more than 11 hours and have a downtime of 10 hours before and after each shift.

Additionally, the drivers must stop driving by the 14th hour of the day. Because of these regulations every second counts for getting work done! When getting the day started, a truck driver has many factors to consider when planning their route. Planning for things like weigh stations, meal times, truck inspections, etc. helps ensure that they are staying on schedule for their route.

    Miles in the Day

As we said, truck drivers are limited to the number of hours that they can drive in a single day. On average though, a truck driver can drive 500 miles in one day or 100,000 in a year. The number varies depending on factors such as the driver, the route, traffic, etc.
