Turkey Binge & Watch: Epic Flicks for Thanksgiving

As I begin to prepare my holiday menu for the upcoming Turkey-Bonanza 2015, I can feel my stomach popping and my desire for elastic waistband increase. What to do once the binge fest (otherwise known as Thanksgiving) is over? Binge movie watch!

Turkey Binge & Watch: Epic Flicks for Thanksgiving Couch Surfing

Curl up on your couch, as you slip into a tryptophan induced coma, and indulge in some of the most epic flicks from the 80’s, 90’s and early 00’s. Laughing at some of these might just help burn off some of that apple pie and cranberry pecan stuffing.

    The Sweetest Thing: 2002

Cameron Diaz, Christina Applegate and Selma Blair. Need we say more? This hilarious “chick flick” involves Diaz’s character on a trek to find her “Mr. Right” – in the process we are enlightened with the ‘Penis Song’, a urinal tidal wave, a penis in the eye, a piercing caught in the back of the throat, anal leakage, and other over-the-top insanity. There is always time for a movie montage. The predominantly female cast is nicely frosted with none other than fan fave Jason Bateman and Thomas Jane.

    Dazed and Confused: 1993

The adventures of incoming high school and junior high students on the last day of school, in May of 1976, but filmed in the 90’s. Through a large cloud of marijuana smoke that hovers over this movie, you will see a cast like no other. Most were either UNKNOWN or virtually unknown at the time, including Ben Affleck and Matthew McConaughey.

    Xanadu: 1980

Olivia Newton-John on roller skates in a romantic musical fantasy film that was received such negative reviews, it was the inspiration for the creation of the Golden Raspberry Awards (worst films of the year). And yet, we cannot seem to get enough of this magical-leg warmer-disco-musical on wheels. The movie might have tanked then, but it is a cult favorite now (35 years later) and let’s not forget the single “Magic” scored Newton-John a No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks in August 1980.

    Grease 2: 1982

Whether you are a “cool rider” or a “girl for all the seasons” – this sequel is NOTHING like Grease the original. Which is I think why we like it so much. The over the top musicals are beyond entertaining (especially in the bowling alley)…if that doesn’t float your fancy, you can watch Michelle Pfeiffer in her 20’s sporting leather pants.

    The Lost Boys: 1987

Long before the Twilight – there was The Lost Boys. Hot vampires, motorcycles, and the “two Coreys”. Blood, gore, humor and even a bit of romance, The Lost Boys continues to lead the list of multi-generations all-time favorite films. The cast boasts (at the time newcomers) Kiefer Sutherland, Jason Patric, the late Corey Haim, Corey Feldman and Jami Gertz. “Don’t ever invite a vampire into your house, you silly boy. It renders you powerless.”

Anything written by Kevin Smith in the 1990’s:
    Clerks, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Mallrats

    And finally….Teen Witch: 1989

I know you are going to say this is a Halloween movie. Indeed, you are correct. But if you have ever seen this movie, you will understand when I say, “Top that!”

    Enjoy your gluttonous holidays!
