When it comes to the warmer months, nothing says “I’m ready for summer” better than rocking that perfect sun-kissed glow. However, walking the line between dewy and straight-up greasy can be a tight one. Seriously, just one step over the edge and your entire look can go downhill all too quickly, leaving you with a makeup meltdown like never before.
Thankfully, we have discovered a few ways to keep your look glowing instead of oily. So, if you’ve been wondering how exactly you can stay glistening, all while keeping your oils under control — we’ve got you covered.
1. THERE’S NO TIME LIKE PRIME TIME.
Repeat after us: primer is your best friend. Do yourself a big favor and get an oil-free primer formulated for oily skin, and apply a few dabs all over your face before putting on your makeup. Whether it’s grease or sweat, the primer will help to lock out anything that makes your skin too shiny — yup, it’s pretty much the “it” product to keep you looking perfect in the summer.
2. TINTED MOISTURIZER IS THE WAY TO GO.
By now we’re sure you know that the dewy look is all about being fresh-faced and glowing. So for good, even coverage during the summer, you could use a light foundation. But, if you can manage to use even lighter coverage, opting for a tinted moisturizer or BB cream is even better. Not to mention, any oil-free formulas are of course a plus, as they won’t add any unwanted kind of shine to your face.
3. LESS MIGHT ACTUALLY BE MORE.
We never actually believed this saying was true either, but just hear us out for a minute! Highlighter is for sure the icing on the cake for creating the ultimate glowy look. BUT, if we get too carried away with it, we can quickly go from glowing to a hot mess. Placing highlighter or slightly shimmery products all over your face is what will push you over that edge. Instead, try placing some highlighter specifically on the top of your cheekbones and down the bridge of your nose. Still feel like you need a little more? Pop some into the corner of your eyes, and right above your upper lip on your cupid’s bow! Remember: wherever the light naturally hits your face is where the highlighter will look best.
4. USE A LIGHT HAND.
While finishing makeup off with a setting powder keeps us from looking greasy, it needs to be used sparingly while aiming for a glowy look. Too much powder can mattify your face (and we all know matte is the opposite of dewy). Use powder with a light hand and a big fluffy brush, simply going down your T-zone. If you don’t have oily skin and still want a glistening look, a setting spray is an even better route to take for locking in your dewy look!
5. FAKE IT UNTIL YOU MAKE IT.
Last but not least, don’t forget to do our favorite thing and bronze it up! Even if you don’t have time to catch a tan at the beach, popping a little bronzer on your cheeks and the temples of your forehead can give off the illusion that you’ve been laying out for days.
