4 Reasons Jealously Doesn’t Look Good On Anyone

I see you, bye hater. It’s time to stop hating and do something more healthy with your life.

Back in the MySpace days, we definitely all had some questionable sh*t on our profiles that would probably make us cringe if we took a look back today. One of the most common quotes I can remember seeing plastered all over the pages of hormonal teens was, “Jealousy is a disease, get well soon.” This was a message to let the “haters” know, it was time to stop drinking the ‘haterade’ and switch to Kool-Aid. However, even now, I’ve got to say, I still agree with the message… jealously is most definitely a sickness.

No matter who you are or what you’re doing, there’s always going to be someone doing better than you. There will always be someone that has better material possessions than you. There will always be someone who gets more opportunities than you. Whatever it is, you need to stop giving a f#$k… right now.

So many people look at what others have and immediately get jealous instead of motivated. We say things like, “They’re so lucky!” We even go as far as making up excuses such as, “They’ve had everything handed to them.” Regardless of how they got where they are or how they have what they do, it should not be as impossible as people make it seem to just be happy for others.

But, guess what? Being a hater actually only hurts YOU. Here’s how:

    1. Being jealous is a complete waste of time and energy.

Hating on another person’s successes won’t bring you your own… so really, what’s the point? Just think about it, if you spent less time down-playing how far other people have come, you’d have more time to focus and work on getting there yourself. Being a hater will take over your entire life if you get sucked in too deep.

    1. It’s creepy as f#%k when you start getting obsessed with envying another person.

Not gonna lie, if you are talking negatively about the same person all the time,  constantly ripping apart their every move on social media, regularly taking that much time out of your day to screenshot and send every post/picture to your groupchat, you may need to seek help. I’ve known plenty of people who are a walking hate-shrine for someone they can’t stand. It’s not cute. It’s actually weird and annoying to listen to. Get over it!

    1. Things change – ALL THE TIME, AT ANY TIME.

Believe me when I say, there are people out there wishing to have what you have. Plenty of people who appear the happiest on social media are the same people hiding a world’s worth of other emotions. You can never know what a person is really dealing with. Circumstances change, life happens, and you could be next up for success… but, not if you keep up a negative outlook. Do not get stuck with bad karma!

    1. Being jealous is truly unhealthy.

Depression, anxiety, sleep deprivation, and mood swings, to name a few, are all health-related symptoms that stem from unhealthy (hating) habits. Not to mention, STRESS AND WRINKLES. Ew! Yup, it’s true. There’s a laundry list full of problems that can end up leaving you physically ill if you don’t kick this poor habit.

Here’s the deal, you need to stop letting these petty distractions drain your life and start realizing what’s right in front of you: A BLANK CANVAS (which I like to call life). You have the opportunity to make it whatever you want.  It’s time to look in the mirror and realize how awesome you are. Don’t get angry, get motivated.

While there’s no denying that some things come easier to one person than they might to another, we all are capable of working towards what we want, setting goals, and achieving them. Most of what we “wish” we could achieve are actually things we have the power to make happen; it’s up to you whether you’re willing to hop off the hate train or not — and go in your own direction. It’s time to take back your life and start living it your way!
