Male Plastic Surgery Continues To Rise, Here Are The Top 5 Procedures

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) recently released statistics on the most popular plastic surgery procedures of 2016, with men making up roughly10 percent of the total procedures.

We spoke to Dr. Douglas Steinbrech, a plastic surgeon based in Los Angeles and NYC, to find out what some of the most popular plastic surgery procedures for men are.

    1. Liposuction

    2. Male breast reduction (Gynecomastia)
One of the fastest growing procedures for men is Gynecomastia, or male breast reduction surgery. Almost 25% of men  have some form breast enlargement according to Steinbrech.  Dr. Steinbrech’s practice consists of 80% men as they have more comfortable with getting plastic surgery.  It is no longer considered taboo or a “woman’s thing” Steinbrech asserts.  Male Brest Reduction constituted over 31,000 procedures in 2016.

    3. Eyelid surgery
Popular amongst men and women,  eyelid surgery is considered both cosmetic and functional: Surgeons can lift lids that are interfering with vision as well as remove lagging skin.   Surgeons performed over 28,000 procedures on men in 2016.

    4. Nose surgery

Men very often opt for nose surgeries, typically within their teens to mid 20s.  In 2016, surgeons performed over 16,200 on men according to the ASPS Statistics.

    5. Botox
Non-surgical procedures are on the rise in general as Botox leads the way.  Men have been seeking non-surgical procedures including Botox (over 450,000 Botox procedures were performed on men in 2016). Minimally invasive procedures such as Botox and dermal fillers can help men appear fresher and younger without the downtime of surgery.

Dr. Steinbrech describes although there are many reasons for men to seek plastic surgery procedures, it’s all about gaining that competitive advantage in the workplace, whether its in the boardroom or even in a sales career.
