You know what they say — “don’t mix business with pleasure” — and, they say it for a reason. Although we totally get that sneaking around with your super hot co-worker (or even more scandalous, your boss) could be tons of fun, chances are that in the end it’ll wind up a total buzzkill.
So, before you forget about things being strictly business, here’s a few things you may want to consider before beginning an at-work affair:
IT’S MOST LIKELY AGAINST THE RULES
While some may argue that rules are meant to be broken, you also have to ask yourself if the consequences are really worth it. Although true love’s worth fighting for, so is your career — especially if it’s your dream job. Are you really prepared to put your future in jeopardy?
YOU’RE BOUND TO GET SICK OF THEM
Most couples don’t spend all day, every day together because they’re busy living somewhat separate lives. They go off to their own jobs at their own offices, which gives them a chance to miss one another. But, when you’re dating someone you work with, chances are you’re literally with them 24/7, which can get to be a bit much. Basically, space will no longer be a thing. Unless you’re super needy, you might want to proceed with caution.
SECRETS ARE EXHAUSTING TO KEEP
In most corporate settings, employees aren’t allowed to date one another, which means if they choose to do so, it’s got to stay on the DL. Sure, at first the sneaking around is fun… but, after a while, if you’re really all about someone, eventually you’re going to want to show them off and let the world know they’re yours. Problem is when you mix business with pleasure, you may never be able to go public.
IF YOU BREAK UP IT’LL BE ACTUAL TORTURE
Breaking up is hard to do as is, so just imagine not only having to see your ex everyday but being forced to work with them? That’s just a whole lot of awkward that ain’t no body got time for. No thank you!
THERE’S PLENTY OF FISH IN THE SEA
Seriously, there is. Before you begin a complicated relationship, you might want to contemplate finding your Nemo elsewhere… like, far, far, FAR away from your workplace.
