New Theory Exclusive with Up & Coming MUA, Macy Varga

I had the pleasure of interviewing up and coming Los Angeles-based makeup artist, Macy Varga. With an insatiable passion to join the Film and Television Union, Macy pursued her studies and upon graduating from Makeup Designory in Burbank equipped herself with the professional skills in beauty, corrective and airbrush makeup. She has her sights to doing more editorials, fashion story shoots along with makeup artist fx for short films.

What inspired you to delve into the beauty industry as a Makeup Artist?

Even as far back as I can remember, I have always been an artist. When I was finally old enough to play with makeup, I never wanted to stop. It was a medium I had never experienced before and it eventually grew into an insatiable passion and my biggest love. When I started looking at makeup beyond the barriers of beauty and glam that’s when I saw myself desiring to pursue it as a career.

What are some of your favorite looks to create?

I absolutely love avant-garde and drag (dramatic, comedic or satirical) makeup. I enjoy experimenting unique, exotic, high-end looks where I can truly express my creativity. Don’t get me wrong though, I love applying natural makeup just the same. My happiest days at work are when I’m able to create bold, dramatic (off-beat) or the dewy natural looks.

What are some beauty mistakes you see women make?

The only mistake I observe women make is when they’re trying to look beautiful for someone other than themselves. Makeup is to highlight our favorite features, it’s to spark our creativity, it should be utilized to make us happy.

What has been some of your most rewarding experiences?

My most rewarding experiences are when I am on a job and I deliver a look my client has absolutely fallen in love with. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my clients happy.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

Being a Makeup Artist is my dream, it’s my passion, and I am incredibly thrilled that I am able to live out what I feel I was called to do. Everyday. Being a freelancer takes a lot of hard work, lots of motivation, and endless creativity. I look forward to all my experiences, good and bad in this field because I hope to never stop growing, learning and evolving. Follow my work at @macy.varga
