Michael O sits down with New Theory Podcast as he launches his new song.
We were pitched to check out Michael O and frankly we were skeptical as we get 10-20 pitches a day.. Most of them are artists who may be decent, but just don’t have the “X Factor”. When I first checked out Michael O, I knew he was the real deal and needed to have him on the show.
Born in 1990 in New York City, and raised in Portland, Maine (as Michael Odokara-Okigbo), Michael O. is a singer/songwriter now living in Los Angeles.
In 2011, Michael lead his college singing group, The Dartmouth Aires, to a second place finish on NBC’s The Sing Off, which showcased him as a powerhouse vocalist. He overwhelmed audiences and celebrity judges with his versatility, stage presence, and vocal command. Ben Folds commented that Michael’s performance was “incredible” while Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men declared that Michael is “a freaking superstar!”
After graduating from Dartmouth College, Michael released his first EP, In the Beginning in 2013. Within 24 hours of its official release, In the Beginning was #3 on the iTunes Soul charts and #4 on the iTunes R&B charts. In Maine, it was the #1 selling local CD of 2013.
In 2015, Michael appeared in the major motion picture Pitch Perfect 2, and was featured on the film’s 2015 American Music Award-winning Best Soundtrack. He also appeared as the feature vocalist on tracks for Option4, Flex Cop and Gladiator.
