Hemp Oil Vs Cannabidiol Oil – What’s The Difference?

Lately, there’s been a lot of natural remedies that have become available in the market. Among them, two products have gained much traction recently, hemp oil and CBD oil. Several recurring questions are being asked regarding them like:

    • What’s the difference between the two oils exactly?
    • What can they do for your health?
    • Are they worth purchasing and trying?

We are going to dive right into their main differences for you to have a firmer grasp on the topic. Also, the new insight is beneficial to help you decide which one to purchase between the two products. You might also opt to give both a try. So without further ado:

Hemp Oil vs CBD Oil – Sourcing

CBD oil and hemp oil both originate from the cannabis plant but comes from different parts of it.

CBD oil uses the entire plant and is made from various parts of the mature hemp plant, including the stalks and flowers.

CBD and other compounds are gathered from the plant through a process called extraction. During this process, useful parts of the hemp plant are pelletized, after which a solvent (like ethanol) or gases (like CO2) pull out the CBD and other vital nutrients. The oil that’ll be collected has high CBD content. It will undergo rigorous testing to make sure that no unwanted substances are left behind, and the desired level of essential compounds is met.

On the other hand, hemp oil comes from its seeds. Just recently, hemp oil derived from the seed of the plant is now commonly referred to as hemp seed oil due to the growing CBD market. It is made only from hemp seeds and created through a process called cold-pressing. This method is used to help preserve the raw and nutritious content of the seeds. The hemp seeds are then de-shelled, chilled and squeezed for their content. The result is an unrefined, green-colored substance.

One of the things that set hemp seed oil apart is that it is usually made using the seeds of industrial hemp plants and does not contain CBD or other cannabinoids, including THC.

    Ingredients to Look For

One of the surefire ways to determine if the product is made of CBD oil or hemp oil is to check the ingredients listed on the label. If they don’t include “hemp oil” or “hemp seed oil.” search for “cannabis seed oil” or “cannabis sativa seed oil”, which are scientific names for hemp oil. Pure CBD products contain ingredients like “cannabidiol” and “CBD”.

CBD Oil vs Hemp Oil – Benefits

Hemp oil and CBD oil are both beneficial in health enhancement, though in different ways.

Hemp oil is sought for its nutritional power brought by its healthy fats and mineral content. It also aids in the treatment of skin disorders and PMS symptoms according to studies.

CBD, on the other hand, is looked to for its range of health benefits which covers:

    • relief from pain
    • insomnia
    • inflammation etc

CBD provides the benefits of cannabis without psychoactive effects which prove advantageous for those who are sensitive to THC.

    Problem with the Mix-up?

Both CBD and hemp oils are wellness ingredients so, in effect, it is not exactly harmful if you accidentally purchase or use one instead of the other. However, you will not reap the maximum benefits of, say, for instance, CBD oil, if it’s hemp seed oil that you used.

They both come from the same source but are significantly different beyond that. CBD and hemp oil are two totally different compounds, with different makeups, and offer different benefits.

You need to make sure you’re not falling into any marketing traps. Checking the product label remain key, especially if you’re after the unique benefits that CBD oil or hemp seed oil offers.
