GTFO: Why Leaving Your Comfort Zone Will Give You A Better Life

“A comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there.”

Comfort zones. We all have them. They’re familiar. They’re safe. They’re what we know. And sometimes, they’re what we never want to break away from, but, we need to.

Whether it’s in our personal or professional lives, we all have our boundaries of what we feel comfortable with, and too often, we do all of our living between those lines.

We play it safe. We stick with what we know. We have our routine down pat so there’s no need to seek an alternative route. We convince ourselves that this is as good as it gets. But, what if it isn’t?

You never know until you try…

If you never try something different, how do you know that you’re not missing out? You don’t. While this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be thankful for what you do have, if you want more, stop settling. Life’s too short to live within limits.

    Change isn’t a bad thing…

I used to fear change like no other. I wanted things to stay the same and shied away from trying anything new. That is, until I realized I’m not a robot. Yes, change can be scary but it’s a part of living. Doing the same sh*t over and over again will suck the life out of you; it’s the new ventures that will revive you. Don’t run from change, run towards it.

Without risk there is no reward…

They say that the greatest rewards come from doing the things that scare you the most, and I couldn’t agree more. When you step outside of your comfort zone, you’re opening yourself up to unchartered territory — which can be terrifying, but most of the time, there’s treasure to be found there.

    You’ve got to challenge yourself…

Make yourself uncomfortable, make yourself nervous, because that is how you grow. When you force yourself to face situations that make you feel timid, there’s no other option but for you to come out on top. Whatever the outcome is, you’ve built up enough courage to step outside of your comfort zone and face your fear — congratulations, that was the biggest challenge, and you just crushed it.

    There’s a whole big world out there…

We’ve all heard the saying “the world is your oyster,” and, according to Google, it means that you’re in a position to take the opportunities that life has to offer. How awesome is that? Next time you’re feeling stuck, think about how big the world is — a lot bigger than your boundaries.
