1. THEY ARE EVERYWHERE
Did you know that Great White Sharks live off the coast of ALL continents except Antarctica? Or what about the fact that the Bull Shark can migrate up rivers, which means oceans aren’t the only waters where you need to watch your back.
P.S. Both of these species are known to attack humans.
2. THEY LOVE CHILLIN’ AT THE SHORE JUST AS MUCH AS US
During the summer, there’s no denying that the party’s down the shore, so of course sharks want in on it. They’re notorious for hanging out close to the shore a.k.a. that part of the ocean we all swim in. Isn’t that comforting?!
3. IN FACT, MOST ATTACKS OCCUR IN LESS THAN 6 FEET OF WATER
Sharks be shallow.
4. THERE’S NO SAFETY IN NUMBERS
When it comes to steering clear of sharks, the buddy system will not help you. Sharks are actually attracted to groups of humans, not a lone swimmer.
Talk about every man for himself.
5. SOME HAVE JAWS STRONG ENOUGH TO BITE THROUGH A PIECE OF STEEL
6. BUT THAT DOESN’T MEAN THEY’LL KILL YOU QUICK
When people die from a shark attack, it’s usually because they bleed to death. Sharks don’t eat you right away or swallow you whole. Instead, they use their rows of teeth to slowly rip you apart. How nice of them!
7. THEY ARE MAN-EATERS
Even though almost equal numbers of men and women spend time in the ocean, sharks seem to prefer to attack men. In fact, nearly 90% of shark attacks have happened to men. Sorry, fellas.
8. PLUS, THEY DON’T EVEN HAVE MERCY ON THEIR OWN FAMILY
When a litter of tiger sharks is born, the first pup to gain consciousness eats its brothers and sisters. #NoMercy
9. THEY HAVE NO REMORSE
When sharks attack, their eyes roll back so that they don’t expose any vulnerable areas.
10. THEY’VE BEEN AROUND FOREVER & AREN’T GOING ANYWHERE
Did you know that sharks inhabited the earth 200 million years before the dinosaurs appeared and have changed only minimally since then?! Now that’s what we call #LIFEGOALS.
