Whenever you head outside for a walk or drive your car down a road, you may see many impressive structures. Whether it is an enormous skyscraper or an assortment of detached houses, these buildings take time to construct. Every construction project begins with a visual idea, which gets developed into tangible blueprints. Afterward, the construction work commences.
A constriction project is much more than just assembling a team to build a property. It requires a significant amount of decision-making throughout the entire process. Every member is important, from the field worker to the electrician. The contributions made by each participant result in a truly awe-inspiring creation.
In commercial construction companies, you will find a myriad of roles assigned within the field. Let’s learn about some of the most essential members in a typical construction project:
Every project, no matter the field that it is developed in, requires an overseer of sorts. When it comes to construction, the manager is assigned that primary responsibility. From a project’s conception to its eventual end, they will manage and oversee all areas.
A construction manager’s job is more than just controlling the flow of the respective project. They are also responsible for budgeting, along with any secondary financial matters. Managers will also have to decide which materials must be used and assign roles to workers. It is truly an all-encompassing role, which requires extensive expertise.
The construction manager is one of the most vital persons involved in construction. Having said that, they cannot do the entire workload all on their own. Depending on the breadth of the project in question, a number of supervisors will be assigned. Supervisors act as an intermediary of sorts within the field.
Essentially, they act as the first point of contact between field workers and the managers. To have communication flow as seamlessly as possible, they will use various devices. These mobile devices create an effortless stream of interaction so that all potential issues can be cleared up immediately.
3. Field Worker
In order to get a project completed, the requisite manpower will be required. That is where the role of the construction worker comes into play. These individuals are the main driving force of every construction project conducted. As soon as a project is planned, the workers will prepare for work.
Even though the title is a bit generic, every construction worker will have a different role. Some may be working on demolition, while others may be involved with varying types of machinery. Each hired worker must be familiar and acquainted with their role so that problems don’t occur.
When the development of a project is coming along, the more meticulous tasks will then be worked on. Electricity is one of those core areas; this necessitates the hiring of an electrician. Once assigned their job by the construction manager, the electrician will begin making electrical connections.
The extent of their work can be relatively simple to much more challenging. Since every project can be different, electricians will have to be well informed of the architecture beforehand. That way, they will be able to ensure that the functionality of all applications is working. A good electrician is also a true expert at problem-solving!
Much of the manpower dedicated towards a construction project comes from those directly in the field. However, there are other necessary parties, such as the electrician, that are just as important. The engineer is another one of those parties, as their skillset determines how the overall project is executed.
Engineers can either be onsite or work offsite, depending on their needs at the time. As for their actual role, they will use various technologies to assist in executing the project. They will also liaise with other team members so that every nook and cranny is dealt with accordingly.
Even though the construction manager is primarily responsible for budgeting, they will often need assistance. This is where the need for a competent estimator will come into play. An estimator’s role often sees them going over various costs pertaining to the project.
These costs, of course, can range significantly. For instance, since every project may range in terms of manpower, an estimator has to consider this. Then, they will have to communicate with outside companies for financing.
