Identity theft is at an all time high.  We all know that in order to protect your identity, you should shred all personal documents securely.  Things like pay stubs, medical records and anything containing your social security number is a no brainer…shred ‘em up.  – But did you know that there are some everyday items you may not have thought of that might make it easier for a thief to get a hold of your bank accounts and identity?

This is certainly not good. Identity theft is one of the worst possible things that could happen to you. If you have never experienced it, consider yourself extremely lucky. For those who have, they will tell you all about the life hassle and burden in reclaiming their identity. It is important to take every proper precaution imaginable to ensure you are never a victim of identity theft.

Here are the Top 3 Things You May Have Never Thought To Shred

    #3 – Address Labels

(Yes, even labels from junk mail and magazines).  Anything containing your name and address should be shredded.  Thieves can easily pick through your garbage, “junk mail”, and gain access to your personal information. -And believe you me, they do!

    #2 – Old Luggage Tags

Again, in most cases this has your name, address and phone number. The basics…

    – But by not properly disposing of old luggage tags, you’ve just handed a thief all the information they need to gain access to your identity.

#1 –  Any Information With Your Maiden/Mother’s Maiden Name or Your Place of Birth

Credit card companies typically use these pieces of information as default questions.  In addition, just knowing your mother’s maiden name, your address and the city you were born, gives thieves enough to access public records to request duplicate birth certificates.

Here’s TheInsiderList.com’s tip of the day

Keep a bag or bin near where you sort your mail.  Anything that has personal information on it, toss it in there (better safe than sorry).  Once you fill it up, find a participating UPS Store location that offers secure shredding services.  In most cases, it will cost under a dollar a pound to have your documents securely shredded…that’s nothing compared to what it will cost to get your identity back!

In addition to the above tip, from now until April 30th, The UPS Store in Summit , NJ will be donating 20% of all shredding sales and proceeds to Autism Speaks in honor of Autism Awareness Month!
