As many iPhone lovers probably already know and anticipate, Apple releases new iPhones every September and this Fall is no exception!
In just a few weeks on September 7, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are expected to launch, and the hype is way too real.
With the latest installments of the iPhone set to drop so soon, you better believe that rumors surrounding it are running wild, as consumers everywhere can’t wait to get their hands on it.
One of the most talked-about (and excitingly new) potential features of the iPhone 7 is that it may possess dual-camera technology.
“Citing a report in Chinese-language publication Economic Daily News, the Digitimes article states that technology supplier Primax Electronics is expecting record August revenues thanks to a 10% increase in camera module production and, more interestingly, to ‘land more orders for Dual-camera modules’ in the second half [of 2016], triggered by the planned launch of dual-camera iPhone 7 devices’.
This has lead to widespread speculation that Primax is itself to become a supplier of Dual-camera modules for the iPhone 7. The news comes as something of a surprise as it contradicts earlier reports suggesting that the components would be provided solely by LG Innotek after doubts were raised over Sony’s ability to fulfill demand.
There are great benefits to dual-camera technology, but the catch is that the Digitimes article at no point claims that Primax will actually become a supplier of the iPhone’s Dual-camera modules, stating simply that the company expects to receive more orders in the wake of the launch. This could simply mean that the company expects Apple AAPL -1.19%’s adoption of dual-camera technology to increase general consumer demand, expanding the market for its own dual-camera solutions in other products.”
But, what exactly does a dual-camera do & why should we be so excited about it?!
It will produce significantly better photos.
Dual-lens cameras have the ability to do the following:
- Use one camera to capture regular images, and one to record depth-perception data
- Allow users to apply different effects
- Have sensor technology
- Have array camera technology: consisting of multiple cameras to improve the quality of the image. Plus algorithms and camera architecture that boost resolution, low-light performance, and color accuracy.
- Can use depth information to created 3D images from the flat photos
Although dual-lens cameras already exist (HTC phones have them), you know that when Apple does something, they do it up BIG. This means that if Apple really has incorporated a dual-camera into its newest phone model, they probably went all out, and the results are going to be unlike anything we have ever seen before.
It was nine years ago in 2007 that the first ever iPhone hit the market and since then it’s been nothing short of a phenomenon. Each year, they introduce features more innovative than the one before, and we’re sure this year won’t be any different.
“While there is no official word yet, it is expected that the pre-orders will start from September 9 with first shipping beginning September 16,” according to News 18.
