Is Digital Gaming Overtaking Traditional Gambling in New Jersey?

A few years back New Jersey approved online gambling for casinos with existing casino licenses.  It was supposed to be a boon for the industry as a whole as Atlantic City is in trouble.  Atlantic City, also known as America’s favorite playground has been getting slammed by nearby competition in Pennsylvania, Mohegan Sun up north and even slot casinos in New York City have been cutting into their action.  Apparently, Gamblers just do not see the value to make the 2-hour car ride when they can get their gambling fix right around the corner.  Thus causing this once luxurious gambling mecca to a tourist destination to a ghost town.  The decline has caused a substantial decrease of jobs in the area, down 20% since 2014.  Also, tax collections are way down as well.  He newly elected Governor Richard Murphy has inherited a real mess as AC is critical to the overall New Jersey economy.

The casino’s answer is to provide the ability to gamble right from home and protect lost revenue as many people are happy to play blackjack, poker, and slots online.  Although there has been a steady increase in online gaming, which the casinos sorely need, the tables are still empty at the majority of AC’s remaining resorts.  Aside for NJ, there are numerous online gaming review sites on the scene both in US and Canada, check out this site as its one of my favorites online slot portals.

So why does it make sense to play online versus heading down to Atlantic City or even flying out to Vegas?

    • You can gamble in the convenience of your home
    • Saves you time and money on travel expenses
    • Although there are some shows and attractions, if you go to AC to gamble, then online makes sense
    • Most casinos offer great rewards for using their sites win or lose

It has been reported recently that the old Revel Casino was purchased and is scheduled to reopen later in  2018.

Also, the Hard Rock Casino acquired the defunct Trump Taj Mahal as that will undoubtedly draw millennials back to AC.  So whether you like to gamble online or in-person, Atlantic City appears to be turning a corner and a comeback may be in the cards.
