God Didn’t Give Me A Sister, But He Gave Me You

god didn't give me a sister

    I’ve heard having a sister is a beautiful thing…

A sister is someone who will never leave your side; a built in best friend that will always tell you the truth no matter how much it hurts. She’s your own personal shopper & store when you have nothing of your own to wear, and the best secret keeper you will ever know…

I wasn’t born with a sister, but that does not mean I don’t have one.

You are my best friend.  A person I can count on no matter what we may be going through or what obstacles we may be facing. You have never let me down and I don’t think you ever will. You know all my hopes, all my dreams- everything there is to know about me and more.

You are my strength; the best support system I could ever have. Whether it’s scraping me off the floor after my heart is broken or talking me off the ledge when I think life is just too much to handle, you have always been my voice of reason. Sometimes I look back on what I’ve gone through – what we’ve gone through-  and don’t know how I’d be standing here without you.

Our memories are something out of a book. Drunken nights, days spent shopping and swooning over where we wish to be one day. All the early mornings I’ve carried you back to the safety of your bed after hours of partying and laughing, even though we both had work early the next morning. You have said some of the funniest things I’ve ever heard in my life – always knowing how to make me laugh.

You’re crazy in the best way. Screaming when your favorite song comes on, dedicating a night to ‘finding the man of your dreams in a black v-neck t shirt’, and taking adventures that we both know will lead no where. Impromptu concerts, last minute baseball games; some of my the best days of my life were spent with you by my side.

You’re cruel, but with the best intentions. You don’t ever want me to have my head in the clouds or be blinded by the truth. Sometimes it comes off as harsh but I know it’s because you can’t always be there to protect me, so you want me to be able to protect myself.

You tell my when my hair needs to be washed, when an outfit I’ve picked out is the most bizarre thing you’ve ever seen and when it’s time for me to open my eyes about the person I love. It’s as if I have a living guardian angel who always knows what I need and what I will regret.

We “borrow” each other’s clothes, spoil each other stupidly and fight over who pays the bill on a daily basis. I call your parents mom & dad, and you call mine the same. Even they know we’re two halves to a whole; two people who will never turn our backs on each other and will never walk away if the other needs help.

You call and I’ll run, the same goes for me. We drive each other absolutely insane to the point of screaming at each other and without knowing why, but we’re always truthful and hold nothing back. That’s why our bond is so strong. That’s why I can trust you with my life, and I hope you trust me with yours.

I am blessed. Each day that you’ve been in my life had been an amazing one. We may not have known each other forever, but you will be a part of my life for the rest of time. God may not have given me a sister, but he gave me you and for that, I will always be thankful.
