TV host and Cravings cook book author, Chrissy Teigen, has recently opened up about her infertility struggles with music maven husband, John Legend.

In a time that should be exciting and filled with anticipation, the Sports Illustrated model is getting massive amounts of backlash from her recent confession to using In Vitro Fertilization (I.V.F.) to help with her ongoing fertility issues.

What really caused the internet to go absolutely crazy was when Teigen, 30, shared with People magazine, “Not only am I having a girl, but I picked the girl from her little embryo. I picked her and was like, ‘Let’s put in the girl.’” Teigen gushed over the type of bond John will have with their daughter.

As if her I.V.F. procedure wasn’t enough to get people talking, choosing the gender is ultimately what set the tone for the flood of hateful comments from the Twitterverse. We all know by now that the internet is always looking for something to wreak havoc about, so it should come as no surprise that they also did not appreciate her referring to Baby Legend as a “science baby”.

After the overwhelming amount of negative responses, Teigen felt that it was necessary to reassess her statements.

Teigen immediately took to Twitter to set the record straight. Although she understands that some people may not completely comprehend such a controversial issue, she can’t help but wonder why people with different beliefs go out of their way to push them on others.

Imagine struggling to conceive for years, failing time and time again, only to find out you are finally pregnant but after sharing this exciting news with the world, instead of receiving positive feedback, you get ripped apart. Not cool.

For years, the power couple had been trying to get pregnant. If it was up to her, they would have had a large brood already, around five or six, but it wasn’t happening naturally.

Teigen admitted, “… John and I have been going through this for years and it’s something that has been a part of our lives and our friends have known”. Luckily, the couple has a tight-knit, tight-lipped group of friends and support who all respect their privacy.

What people are failing to realize is that this process is a lot more common than we think.

Board Certified Infertility Specialist, Dr. Peter Klatsky, shared, “While embryo sampling (PGS) allows identification of gender before an embryo is transferred, most patients are focused on having a successful I.V.F. cycle and healthy baby. Learning the gender is secondary.” He added, “While John and Chrissy used PGS for selecting an embryo with 46 chromosomes, new technologies hold the promise of helping couples simultaneously identify and screen out embryos with severe lethal mutations at the same time.”

It’s quite clear that Teigen is practically unbothered by all of the negativity coming her way. She even confesses, “Good thing I’m unoffendable or this would be a rough few months” on her twitter page.

We can’t blame Teigen for her blunt and forward comment. We live in a celebrity obsessed society that is always on the lookout for something to critique. To play it safe, the mother-to-be has decided to take a break from tweeting and spend her time preparing for motherhood.

In the meantime, we will be patiently waiting for this little Legend to arrive. As for her haters, kick back, relax, and check out her new cook-book, Cravings to feed your negative souls. Enjoy!
